THE LATE FIRE IN PITT-STREET.
The coroner and jury met again yesterday, at 2 o'clock, at the Naval Hotel, Pitt-street, to enquire into the cause of the fire in Pitt-street. The whole of the jurymen were present at 2 o'clock, as well as Mr. Broham and Mr. Wynn. Mr. Wynn addressed the jury. He said they were all awaro that the Courb had been adjourned from last Monday,' in order to give those engaged in the prosecution of the enquiry an opportunity of procuring additional evidence—they heing convinced that the fire was the work of an incendiary. The evidence that had already been obtained was of such a character that to disclose it would be calculated to defeat the ends of justice. Under these circumstances, he would therefore ask that the Court should bo adjourned, as an adjournment was absolutely necessary. The Insurance Companies were prepared to pay the expenses of the jurors for their further attendance, as they did not consider it just that the jurors should be compelled day after day to attend at the pleasure of the Insurance Companies. He therefore left it to the jurors to say on what day they would meet again, and on that dny the prosecution would either complete their case or abandon it.—Tho jury agreed to meet on Monday next, at the same hour and place.
