GENERAL SUMMARY.
Discount, 3 per cent. Consols, for money 92 to 92i. The next series of wool sales commence on the 13th April. The total arrived, up to date, is 117,430 bales, including 4,891 bales from New Zealand. Business is brisk between England and Germany. Prices show no tendency to improve, in consequence of the French political difficulties. In Parliament, hard fighting is expected in committee on the army scheme. It is doubtful if the Ministry will be victorious in it. A fierce debate is expected on the Black Sea conference. If England is declared humiliated as a xesult of the debate, it is expected that Gladstone will retire from office. Shipments to all colonies aro low. Wheat mode firm with upward tendency, owing to the steady demand for France and Bel j gium. New Zealand flax trade dull. 4000 bales were sold from 151 to 36^. Good medium ' from 22/ to 2GL Arrived from New Zealand : —Aboukir, and Asterope.
