Yesterday afternoon an examination of the pupils- of St. Matthew's school took place, This was the first examination of these scho-' lar3 since Mr. Andrews has been appointed. The Rev. Mr. Jones, Incumbent of rit. Matthew's, occupied the chair, and acted as judge, assisted by Dr. Hooper. About 250 persons were present, including the scholars, and the examination gone through was a very lengthy ami searching one, questions on every branch of knowledge being put to the pupils, and answered in the main with great correctness, showing that the tuition of (he pupils had been most carefully conducted. In all, nineteen prizes were awarded. At the conclusion of the proceedings the chairman congratulated th parishioners upon the appointment of Mr. Andrews to the office of master of the school, left vacant by the resignation of Mr. Taylor. A teacher more fitted for the appointment could not have been obtained, and he paid Mr. Andrews a very high compliment upon the manner in which the entire examination had been conducted, and which was satisfactory alike to judges, parents, and teacher.
