IN the Reside;]!; Magistrate's Court, on Wednesday, before 0. Mellsop, Esq., R.M., the following cases were beard :— CiviTj Casks. —Beavora v. Donovan, claim £1 5s for damage by cattle to .a stack of hay and some cabbage. Plaintiff found defendant's cattle at his hay stuck early in the morning ; he drove tbemhome and demanded compensation, which was refused. Several witnesses were examined on both sides. Judgment for plaintiff, 10s and cost?. —Savory v. Plumei-idge, claim £10 Bs, for ono year's rent. Mr. Kissling appeared for plaintiff. Judgment for plaintiff. —Hurst v. Bainbridge, claim 13s 6d, for digging potatoes. Judgment by default. Labceny.—Margaret Lyons was charged by Richard Walter, of Otahuhu, with stealing money from his person. Complainant deposed, I was in Roger's Hotel last evening ; prisoner was at the bar ; she asked, if I would stand, a drink ; she also proposed our going into a private room, which we did and had two glasses of beer each ; prisoner was sitting close to me, and from that side pocket of my trousers I lost a sovereign and some silver. I felt her hand in my pocket, and then gave her in charge.—Constable Walker deposed, to prisoner stating to him. that she had only a few shillings.. She afterwards consented to show 'me what she had tied up ifther handkerchief. I found o>!j,Q.4Q^3reign and four shillings. Sits ToT3 me orosoeutor had given it to fcer.—The Court felt compelled to TJOTSVicI the prisoner, but, at the same time, was construined-to express a strong opinion of the disgraceful conduct of the prosecutor.
