FIRE IN PRINCES-STREET, ONEHUNGA.
A fire occurred at Onehunga last evening, the scene of the conflagration being an unoccupied house in Princes-street. At between nine and ten o'clock the inhabitants of the district were aroused by the alarm of fire, who at once hastened to the spot to render what assistance was in their power. The fire broke out in a house owned by Mrs. Taprell, who recently kept a fruiterer's shop. The house was yesterday rented by a Mr. Esbey, carpenter, who had been working in the house during the afternoon. He left in the evening, leaving two chests of tools, valued at £50, and which were lost in the fire. The shop of Mr. Schmidt, baker, was much scorched, and had a narrow escape of being burnt down. The Independent Chapel and Mr. Hamer's residence were also in great danger.
