May I.—lt has been raining incessantly here since Friday last, and there is a flood larger than any ever known. Three houses have been washed away from the foot of the mountain, and the claims are filled in. Several engines have gone, and business is entirely suspended. Dr. Gentle had a very narrow escape from drowning while crossing the creek on Saturday.
