An accident occurred yesterday at the saw mills in Mechanics' Bay, which might have been attended with a very serious result. A young man named Hall, was attending the machinery when, from some unexplained cause, his hand was caught, and a very severe gash was inflioted upon his hand and wrist. Though the wound is an exceedingly ugly one, it is not anticipated that any danger will supervene. A robbery was committed yesterday in Parnell of a somewhat mysterious oharaoter. The wife of a boatman, named Hogan, suddenly missed a sum of £26 from where it had been deposited. The police were at once informed of the robbery, and they were, with detective Ternahan, engaged to a late hour last evening in hunting up the clue. Although suspicion has fallen on certain persona, it might defeat the ends of justice to disclose the names. The mission schooner Southern Cross Captain Jacobs, arrived at Norfolk Island after a, good run of six days from Auckland. She left again for the islands, with Bishop Patteson and Mr. Codrington. There was, last evening, a muster, of the members of No. 5 Compaay Auckland Rifle Volunteers, at the Drill-shed, for the purpose of drill. The usual evolutions were gone through satisfactorily. The usual monthly inspection of the Auckland Rifle Volunteer Battalion will take place to-morrow evening. A meeting of the members of the new commissariat corps will be held this evening, at the Belfast Hotel, Princes-strpet.
