April 27. —Parliament was opened by commission on Tuesday. His Excellency the Governor read the speech this afternoon. —The s.s. Alhambra arrived from New Zealand this morning.—The English mail, via Suez, sailed punctually on Sunday. Sir James Palmer died on Sunday. There was ti very large attendance at the funeral on Wednesday.—Duffy has withdrawn, from the candidature of Sixiikershijand McMahon has been elected unopposp—Wool is very firm, but quiet. Baley°f flour have been made at £14 15s. Port *-ac * donnell wheat sold by auction at 6s 6d ,• New Zealand withdrawn, at former quot*i°nß 5 New Zealand oats (6000 bushels) \*re sold by auction, and brought from 3s sd'° 3s. 7d; inferior, 3s 3d to 3s 4d. Sales -»f Devoe's kerosene reported at 2s 2d. S»gar market heavy, and teas in better request 1200 case 9 JDKZ gin sold by auction at lJ**l£d.- Hennessy's pale brandy, 6s 9d.—Arrived : Prosperity, from Hokitika; Saied: Sarah and Mary, for Hokitika.
