The Message* dv Midi states that «thr Arabs are preparing for the Holy War through"but Algeria. Large bodies of troops are being sent there from Toulon. The transports Entreprenfcute and Juva are loading at Toulon whe-e a body of 15,000 men await their departure. This new insurrection is getting serioug and a vigorous action must be taken at once to check the rebellion, which is spreading among all the tribes." ■ The Fiji Times says : —« The U.S. Consul (Dr. Blower) proceeded to JKadavu soon afte» the murder of Mr. A. Underwood, by Tanna men, to enquire into the case. Whilst there he cauced one of the murderers to be apprehended, but the other one succeeded in making bis escape into the bush. The chief has, however, promised to get the fellow within about a week, and to forward him to JLevaka. The Harriet, cuter, brought the one man to Levuka, and Dr. Brower ha 3 requested Batvr Mcli to keep him in safe custody until | the second man reaches here, when both will be tried." We observe that Lieut. Woods is being employed to survey the Nanuku passage JPifi Islands. Mr. Woods has had great experience in surveys, and a better men could hardly ! have been selected for the purpose.
