G-ALIiE, March 22. The China steamer is again late ; the Avoca is detained thirty-six hours in consequence. The Singapore and Batavia cable ia interrupteef; a steamer has been dispatched to repair it.

The barque Palmerston, with a full cargo for London, from Colombo, was wrecked east of G-alle.

Eleven elephants \veve shipped from Colombo for Howe's menacerio. at New York.

Numerous steamers are expected through the Suez Canal, owing to the opening of the Mount Cenis Tunnel, which is expected to rectify the Brindisi route.

Mr. Seward is on a tour to India, and had a letter of introduction to the Viceroy from Brigham Young. The railway from Madras to Bombay will open on the Ist April; branch railways are also opening. Sir George Campbell succeeds Sir William Gray as Governor of Bengal. A grand ceremony took place in Calcutta on tho occasion of investing Maharajah Tuililla Grey and Tippoo Sahib's son with the Star of India.

Disturbances still continue among tribes in ten districts, which have assumed fighting. Gold and coal have been found at Mysore. The census in India is to be taken next year and Ceylon this month.

Mr. Temple's Indian budget treduces the income-tax ten shillings, and shows a surplus. Turrespa, the Abyssinian, had a successful trial at Bombay.

The first steamer of the Russian line leaves Bombay for Odessa on Ist of April. The Siberian telegraph lines are approaching completion, and will join the submarine cables when finished. BOMBAY.
