CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, and there was a good attendance of members. A favourable expression of opinion was given by the Chamber with reference to he introduction ol the "cental system." V. very important letter was read from
i ''tptain Koberts, of the ship Cadueeus, p. testing against the great delay attending 'he discharge and loading of ships at Auci.'and. 'I he recent appointment of VI r. Dargaville as Consular for the United Mates, was brought under the notice i f the Chamber by Air. Dargaville, who explained the position and duties of a Consult',;• Agent; and a resolution was passed by l lie Chamber, congratulating Air. Dargaville on the appointment, andordered to be transmitted to the Colonial Secretary.
We may add that in Mr. Dargaville's explanation of the positiou of Consular Agent, as given in the morning papers, there w«s an error. What Mr. Dargaville stated to the Chamber was tiiat the certificates of the Consular Agent at Auckland to invoices and in connection with other matters relating to commerce, shipping, &c., have equal force and effect with those of the Consular Officer at the Bay of Islands, and that the duties of the Consular Officer here were of the same nature in all such matters.
