EXTENSION OF THE TELEGRAPH.
Mb. HecxoeMcKenzie has, we learn, taken the contract for extending the telegraph line from Tauranga to Katikati, thus" '^nging the line of communication thirty milirs nearer to the Thami'.«. Mr. McKenzie start&d overland last ;evening, and if he is not stopped by the aukati line at Ohinemuri, we may expect the work to be commenced at once ; and, from the weL'-known energy of the contractor, we may safely calculate in no time being lost. The whole of the land through which the extension is to run, belongs to the Government, so that no obstruction to the erection of the poles and stretching of the wires need be anticipated. It will be one stop towards the completion of the link of telegraph communication between the southern provinces and the 1 Lames and Auckland. Of course any rurther extension must, in a great measure, depend on the temperament of the Ohineinuri natives, or the adoption of a determined line of conduct by the Government. —To-day's Advertiser.
