ONEHUNGA RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.
A MEKTrNG of the above corp3 was held on the evening of 12th inst., in the block-house, to elect officers ; Major G-ordoii in attendance. Proposed by Mr. R. Kelly, and seconded by Mr. Gallery, that Mr. Johnßvierly do take the chair.—After thanking the gentlemen present in a few but appropriate words for the honor conferred on him, ho hoped Major Gordon would be kind enough to explaiu to the meeting the best way to proceed with the business of the evening.—The Major proposed, as there were members enough enrolled to form two companies, the simplest way would bo to draw two letters, A and B, each to form a company, -which was accordingly adopted, and gave general satisfaction. A member of each company next drew for choice of captains. B won.—Proposed by Mr. Charles Fleming, " That H. Gordon, Esq., be captain." Carried unanimously.—Mr. Watson was appointed Lieutenant, and Mr. Charles Fleming Ensign to No. 2 Company.—Proposed by Mr. Brierly, "That John Lonan, ICsq., be captain." Canned unanimously. Mr. John Brierly was appointed lieutenant, and Mr. William Bradly as ensign to No. 1 Company. Each company muster forty strong. The meeting was brought a close by appointing the following evening to elect non-commissioned officers. Before dispersing, and the usualvote of thanks given and responded to, there were three cheers called for Major Gordon, which was heartily responded to, also three cheers for the captains, lieutenants,;and ensigns, in succession, which were 'also heartily given. It was most creditable to all the members for the order and good conduct which was preserved throughout the meeting.
