FLOODS IN THE KAIPARA.
A vert heavy flood occurred in the Komokariki and Makarau districts on Satui'day and Sunday last, and it is greatly feared that a much respected settler, of some years' standing, has been drowned. It appears that during the greater part; of the week the rain poured down almost -incessantly, causing the waters iv the creeks to rise rapidly, and to such an extent that has not been reached before. Several of the homesteads and a flaxmill situated on the banks of the Arapariera were completely covered by the rushing waters, and great loss haa been caused to settlers by their cattle, sheep, and horses being drowned, and garden produce washed away. Indiridual losses have not yet been ascertained, but it is feared the result will be such as to greatly retard the progress of this young and hitherto tbriviug settlement, many of the settlers having already struggled hard and successfully against the difficulties always met with by those pioneers of civilisation.—[Corres pondent.]
