The report current in the city to-day to the effect that the pretty little Fairy had capsized is a local illustration of the " Three Black Crows." This steamer in nonpareil was fastened up to the jetty, at Shoal Bay, -when those in charge happening to go up shore, the tide retired a3 it is accustomed to do in that quarter twice daily. The good little boat tried her best to retire too, but could not effect the severance of the hawser, and in sheer exhaustion after her efforts, on the departure of the water which had usually sustained her, lay over on her sides; some one of the wise men of Q-oUiam happening to pass that way, and not having been accustomed to see a steamer except afloat, was amazed at tho peculiar position and posture of the Fairy, and carried over to the city the report that the Fairy had "capsized." *As the good little craft is quietly reposing till the return of the tide, there need not be much alarm as to her appearance in due time.
Anti Chinese ENaLiSH.—Show us a newspaper in which one-fourth of the words are powerful adjectives misapplied ; in which an independence of syntax struggles for the supremacy with a disregard of orthography ; in which the more forcible clauses of a sentence are put first, and the weaker last; in which there is a conspicuous absence of individuality in style, and a notable unconsciousness of the elementary rules of English composition generally—and we'will show you a newspaper that certainly opposes Chinese immigration, and probably alludes to the Chinese as Asiatic devils. — San Francisco Neios letter.
