THE THAMES MINING BOARD.
The polling for the election of members of the Thames Mining Board was fixed for yesterday. The polling place for the city of Auckland was the Provincial Council Chambers, and Mr. T. C. Leggett \va3 appointed Deputy Returning Officer for the occasion. His task was not a Tery onerous one, for not a single rote was recorded. This shows the great interest that is taken in Auckland in the appointment of the members of this Board. On the last occasion of a similar election only five votes were recorded in Auckland ; this year the grand total of votes is —nil. This result seems to hare been partly anticipated by the Returning Officer of fthortlaud, for he sent word to his deputy, saying that if no voles were recorded a few lines to that effect would suffice. The following are the names of the candidates : —Messrs. Robert Davidson, Robert Walker, Fairburn, Daniel Garvey, William Somerbey, Greenville, Alexander Hays, Edward Henry Power, Roderick McDonald Scott, James Sutherland, and John D. Wickham.
