FUNERAL OF GUNNER LORIGAN.
An inquest was held on Saturday afternoon, at the Suffolk Hotel, College-street, before Dr. Philson and a respectable jury, upon the body of Francis Lorrigan, aged Iwenty years, whose sudden death on the previous evening was reported in our Saturday's issue. The deceased lived with his father and mother in Union-street, and op. the evening in question he had gone to the house of a friend named George Young, living in Newton, where he stayed to tea. After tea he had a game of cards. He drank nothing but a single spoonful of spirits, declining to take anything else. He had been during the previous week suffering from the effects of a cold. While playing at cards he suddenly fell forward and expired. Several witnesses were examined at the inquest, the principal one being Dr. Bayntou, -who deposed that he had made apost mortem examination of the body, from which he came to the conclusion that the deceased Lad died from apoplexy. A verdict in accordance with the evidence was accordingly returned. Yesterday afternoon the body was interred. It was followed to the grave by a number of the Artillery Volunteers, of which corps deceased was a member, and also by a large circle of private friends. The bands of the Artillery, Naval, and Rifle Volunteers, also followed the body to the grave, the Artillery Band playing the Dead March in Saul during the procession.
