March 11.—Nimblefoot won the two principal ,*aces at Geelong ; also the Australian Cup (Melbourne) yesterday. — There have been several arrivals of sugar ships. The market, however, remains firm.—Capt. Dudley Coote has gone to Tasmania to negotiate with the Government for railway extension. He has been in communication with Mr. Dwyer, with reference to his suspension railway. —On the arrival of the Hero at. Sydney, the market for Tookey's shares became excited, but buyers declined to give more than £5 10s. Tlie market is now steady at £5 10s. to £5 12s. 6d., with no buyers. — The intercolonial cricket match commenced yesterday. Victoria, in its first itmingsj scored 198 ; Sydney, 200. The former, in the second innings, had four wickets for 90. —The schooner Elderslie, from Java, has arrived at Sydney, having eneouutered a hurricane, in which she lost bulwarks and boats.—The Sydney Government have determined to release Lorando Jones on his own personal bond for good behaviour for twelve months.—The markets are quiet. Sales of flour at £14 to £14 10s. Wheat 6s, and oats firm at.3s7d to 3s 8d ; not much of the latter offering. Maize is wanted at 4s 9d to is lOd. Kerosene is still in good demand ; holders demanding full prices at last week's quotations. — New Zealand flax rope has been tarred and tested, and is coming into favor. Sales have been effected at £43 "to £56. Flax is quoted at £16 to £21, without buyers.—New Zealand wheat 5.3. 6d. to ss. 7d. —Macklin, the brewer, has been remanded on three different charges of forgery. The first time bail was accepted in two recognisances for £50 each, but he was subsebuently re-arrested, and bail fixed at £1000 eaeli.-Mr. Wrixon, the SolicitorGeneral, and Mr. Hannah, have been returned unopposed. For the remaining thirtyfive seats I' 2 candidates have been nominated .
