THIS DAY.
The fifth day of the Colonial Rifle thooting was not so favorably circumstanced in the matter of weather as the days preceding ; the weather, for the first time since the commencement, being such as to somewhat operate against accurate shooting. The wind blew very strongly, but, fortunately, it was in the direction of the range. Skortly before ten o'clock the competitors had assembled, and the proceedings commenced, Colonel Harrington being in command of the whole of the men, assisted by Majors Gordon and Tisdall, and Lieutenant Snell. Major Gordon was iv command of No. 1 squad ; Major Tisdall, of No. 2 ; Captain Derrom, of No. 3 ; and Major Coopei*, of itfo. 4. Lieutenant M. Connell, Ensign Mclutosh, and Ensign Kelly were in charge of the butts. The rapidity firing was resumed at 10 o'clock but was not concluded when our reporter left. The firing was going on very accurately, considering the wind, but so far as it had proceeded, at on* o'clock, Buchanan was still anead, his score of 89 hai not been approached by any of the others. Tory few people were on the ground, but the band of the Artillery was present, and in discoursing sweet music served to enliven the scene.
