Those who feel satisfaction in bewailing the depression of the times should take a glance at the list of insolvencies published in one day's issue of the Melbourne papers, previous to the coming into force of the present Bankruptcy Act of that colony. In a copy before us we observe a column filled from top to bottom with a list of one day's insolvents, and representing all degrees and classes in tbe colony. Previous to their departure, however, it is proposed, we believe, to apply to the Supreme Court for an order Betting aside the marriage settlements—the object being, it may bo presumed, to give such control over the very valuable and extensive property comprised in them as will allow full freedom of action, with a view to tho most advantageous disposition of the estate. There will be no opposition to this proceeding ; in fact it has the concurrence of all parties. Mr. Whitaker is to move the Court in the matter, and show cause to satisfy the Court that such an order may be made.
