MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.
ANNUAL MEETING-.
The annual meeting of members of tbe Mechanics' Institute nas held last niiht, in the Hall. The President (Mr. Whitaker) occupied the cliair. There were twelve members present. The Secretary read the annual repo.i; and balance-sheet. After some discussion, the moilon of Mr. Kirby, of which notice was given last year, for the purpose of doing away with secret nominations of office-bearers, was put aud rejected, and the meeting proceeded to eiect the Prosident, Vice-Pre-sident, and twelve members of committee. Those already nominated, to the number corresponding to the seats to be-filled, were formal'y proposed and elscted. It wasiriderstoodthatapublic meeting might subsequently be held, at which those so ele3ted could be cal'ed on to resigu, aud pq opportunity given to the members pubJicly'o express a voice in the election.
