His Honor the District Judge, Thomas Beckham, Esq., sat in Chambers, to-day, for the purpose of settling the issue to bo referred to the Court of Appeal at Wellington in the case of Lusk v. Midnight Gold Mining Company.
The Golden Crown brought up 10,086 ounces of gold yesterday evening, for the Bank of New Zealand.
We understand that Mr. Audlcy Coote, the Railway Contractor, has been inspecting the proposed lines of railways, and after an interview with the Defence Minister, has proceeded to Wellington to confer with Hon. Mr. Gisborne, as to certain proposals relative tc the carrying out of the railway works.
The s.s. Go-Ahead will leave the Queenstreot wharf for Bay of Islands this afternoon, at 4 o'clock.
A soiree will be held at the Mechanics' Institute on Friday evening next, under the auspices of the Auckland Alliance for the Suppression of the Liquor Traffic, to celebrate the passing of the permissive clause in the new Licensing Act, 1871.
We understand that an inquiry into the cause of the fire on board the City of Auckland will be held at the Waitomata Hotel on Saturday next.
