POLICE COURT.—Monday

[Before G; B. Owen and J. O'Neill, Esqs., Justice-".] Drunkenness.—Wm. Murphy and Mary Walton were each fined ss. for this offence. DiUTNK and Disorderly.—Bridget Hawkey, Mary Walters, and Wm. Murphy, for the above offence, were fined 205., or 48 hours' imprisonment.

Larceny.—Peter Carrol was charged with receiving a saddle, the property of J. P. Hamlin, knowing the same to hare been stolen. Mr. Tyler appeared for the prisoner.—The prosecutor deposed that lie lost a saddle on or about August last. Had been shown the saddle by Ternahau, in possession of the prisoner. —M. Kelly, called for the defence, said he kne\? prisoner. Remembered the saddle, having seen it at the prisoner's house in Barrack-street in August last. He saw a man bring the saddle and offer to sell it to the prisoner for £2.—The Bench considered the evidence insufficient, and dismissed the case.

Assault. —Margaret Riley was charged by Mari i Jane ..Lills with assaulting her on the Bth of February,—Mr. Tyler for the defendant.—Complainant deposed : On Wednesday last my fowls went into Mrs. Riley'e garden, who threatened to kill them. Defendant then struck inn in the face. A daughter of complainant's was called, but from questions asked her by the Bench it was clear the girl did not understand the nature of an oath.— The Bench objec ed to the child being sworn.— Eliza F. Coyle deposed that she was acquainted with complainant and defendant. Remembered last Wednesday hearing Riley's children crying for help. Complainant used abusive language to defendant.—The Bench dismissed the case, each paying their own coats. Obtaining- Monet under False Pretences.—A. B. Humphrey, charged with the above offence, was remanded until Wednesday.

Breach of the Municipal Act. —Henry Marden was charged with driving his cab at night without lights.—This being a first offence, the Bench inflicted a penalty of ss.
