DECLARATION OF THE POLL CITY WEST.
At the Hall of the Young Men's Christian Association, this afternoon, at two o'clock, the result for the late election for the representation of City West was publicly declared. The numbers were the same as those already published by us. Mr. Gillies very briefly returned thanks and drew attention to the quietness that had attended the election as a triumph of the ballot. Mr. Williamson exhibited somewhat of bad taste in opening up old sores, and complaining that the Superintendent should have gone somewhere else for election. Mr. Dignan, in returning thanks to the 200 who had voted for him, stated that he was pleased at the result of the election, and that the constituency would not have done its duty had it not returned the Superintendent. There was, among those assembled, a general feeling that Mr. Dignan had done himself honor in the generous manner in which he spoke of his victorious competitor. The usual thanks were voted to the Returning Officer, and the meeting, which was not a large one, dispersed.
