(We are not responsible for our Correspondents' opinions.)

To the Editor of the Evening Stak

Sir —In your issue of the 7th instn you quote somE remarks of mine out Of one of the morning papers relative to What I said about your Journal, What I complained of is as follows, in your issue of 24fch January —New Rate —Mr. Greorge gave notice '•' That be would move next Sitting day "That a general rate of Six pence and a sewerage rate of one Shilling be struck at the next Meeting— The Above I never said a Word about, and If I had not been accosted in the Street for doing so it would have passed as an error as you Will perceive by the Rate Struck on monday last is the Same as last i year's rate Viz due JNov Bd. and Id. Sir in Conclusion If somE of our fast young men Would take the trouble to make enquires it would Save them making apologies. —lam Sir yours James George. Feby 8. [The mistake was an error in reading the manuscript by the compositor. With reference to the advice appended for the reporters, we would add that if some of our ignorant and illiterate people would keep in the ranks for which nature intended them, and not intrude into positions that should be occupied only by respectable and intelligent people, it would save them from making fools of themselves, and our institutions from becomiug a laughing stock.—Ed. E. S.]
