ORIGINAL POETRY.
MY INFANT DAUGHTER. Hail, sweetest, dearest, living gem, Welcome, welcome home ; Just mamma in every feature. Whence hast thou come ? Was it from a world of darkness, Known to thee alone ? Then, sweet sacred spot of light, Welcome, welcome home. Who was it, in that drear abode, That watched thee to the last ? ■ Who was it that, 'mong strangers here, Thy lot on earth hath cast f Ah, dearest of thy sex, 'Twas God that watched thee there, And placed thee in this world of light, A living gem so fair. To cheer our hearts midst social cares. And point our path to heaven. • This is the reason thou art here— The reason thou art given. T.F.
