TARANAKI.
January 26.—The report respecting Mr. Commissioner Parris, published in the New Zealand Herald, on the 17th instant, is untrue. The Taranalci 'Herald says, that the name of the " gentleman " who gave the information should be published.—The Supreme Court has been postponed till Monday next, in consequence of tho non-arrival of the Chief Justice. There are two cases for trial, one for horse-stealing, and the other for stealing old iron at Patea.—Mr. Gisborne has been returned without opposition for Egmont district; Carrington for Grey and Bell.
January 27, 2 p.m.—The nomination for the town took place to-day, at noon. Messrs. Kelly and Whitcombe were proposed. Mr. Kelly's speech was favourable to the Government, whom he would support. Mr. Whitcombe's was a romance, in which he pictured the deplorable condition of the country should -money D"c borrowed. It was n. lm_-u]> of Mr. J. C. Richmond's speech. He also made statements which were not according to facts. —The first load of timber for the new Courthouse, at Wanganui, was laid on the Marketplace on the 24th.
