PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
In the Provincial Council, yesterday, a motion for making changes in the Turnpike Act was lost. An address was carried asking that a person be sent to arrange for the erection of bridges at Purapura, Maungatete, and Waicui, and the formation ot the road to Victoria Talley. Mr. Philips was added to the Library Committee. A Select Committee was appointed to consider the best way of laying out the Albert Barracks Keserve. The Hospital Bill was advanced in committee. The Mount St. John Bill was read a third time and passed. The Appropriation Bill was also read a third time and passed, as was the Highways Bill. The Licensing Bill was recommitted, and. on the motion of Mr. May, the clause making the permissive principle apply to wholesale licenses was rescinded, and the bill read a third time and passed. The Harbour Board Bill was finished in committee, reported, and tbe third reading fixed for to-day. Messages were read from His Honor, introducing the Registration of Boards Bill, Sheep Act Amendment Bill, and Grahamstown Firerate Bill, which were read a first time, and the second reading fixed for to-day. The subject of the small railway at the Kawakawa mines was referred to a select committee, and the Council adjourned at 11 p.m.
TO-DAF.
The notice paper having been cleared of most of the important business, the principal business for to-day is the Education Bill, Harbour Board Bill, Hospital Bill, and the resolutions as to the railways to be recommended to the General Government. It is possible that the business of the session maybe to-day brought to a close.
