POLICE COURT.— Wednesday.

(Before 11. D. Rlorpeth and J. Newman, lisqs., Justices-) DETTJTERKNESS.—O. J. Barnes was fined 53 and costs, or to bo imprisoned 2-i hours with hard labor. S. J. Falshaw forfeited bail. Suspicion of Stjjaltng.—Benjamin i linnscv was charged with having seven bushels of wheat in his possession, without being able to account for it.—Mr. Wynn for the defence.— On the application of Mr. Broharn the case was remanded till Saturday. Bail allowed, himself in £10 and one surety in £5. Libei..—Richard Carter was charged with having on or about the 31st December, falsely and maliciously published a defamatory statement regarding Edward Kichards, to wit, " ou two separate occasions he has gone to the Police Court and sworn to a deliberate falsehood, and boasted of it." The alleged libel being contained in a letter to the Superintendent, and some difficulty having arisen as to its production in Court, Mr. Wynn, who appeared for the complainant, applied for an adjournment, in order to have the letter produced under subpoena. Mr. McKechnie (for Mr. MacCormick, counsel for the defence) consenting,.the case was adjourned till Friday.
