THE WAR.— ZADKIEL'S PROPHESIES.

We quote the following letter addressed to the editor of the Hastings Gazette : — Sir,—l find upon reference to the 1870 ephemeris that the planet Mars will enter Virgo on 29t.h inst., and will remain there until the end of this year. This sign was deemed by the old astrologers especially to influence the city of Paris when planets passed through this sign. Hence in Zadkiel's Almanac for 1870, page 25, it was stated, with reference to November, "As Mars is now passing through the ruling sign of Paris, Virgo, I fear there will be troubles therein ; and as Jupiter is in opposition to Saturn on that day (the 4th) it will be something very serious. The Imperial Prince will have all eyes tinned upon him. On the 10th December Mars in Virgo squares Jupiter, and troubles arise in Paris, where peace has a slippery footing." This prediction, made fourteen months ±ince, deserves special notice at this time when the state of Paris is critical.—ln the " Voice of the Stars" for February, 1870, it was stated —-" On the Bth Mars will pass over tho Moon's place in tho nativity of the Emperor of the French. This will move him to anger, and he may now feel some ill blood towards the King of Prussia, who will this spring be very ready to pick a quarrel with him." Again, in May, " The King of Prussia has some serious directions in operations now : Moon to opposition of Mars, and the midheaveu to square of Mars with Saturn retrogade over his ascendant." He has " Mars in opposition to Moon" in October, which will be a fatal time. The Crown Prince has " midheaven to sextile «. Jupiter," a favourable aspect, at his birthday in October, 1870, shewing success, &c. About the 22nd " Mars troubles Louis Napoleon ;" let him beware of an " accident." At this time he has the moon to the sextile aspect of Herschel —converse motion, shewing some public benefit ! Tbe comet, on his Solar place, eeams to have caused his disaster chiefly. If so it shews that a comet may at any time alter the effect of a calculation. The Crown Prince of Prussia has just passed a good birth-day, having Jupiter in trine aspect to his sun's place iv Libra, The nativity of tho Prince Imperial seems correct, for when the sun came to parallel declination of Jupiter in Feb., 18G9, the Princess Baciscehi " left many million of francs" to this Prince, which increased his substance, as this planet does generally. If the Empress Eugenic was born under Sagittarius, Saturn, now direct, may have been stationary on her ascendant when she recently' left Paris. Her reputed birthday was May sth, 182 G. Now that "Nap" has retired from business there are many ready to smite him, but his numerous beneficial acts, both for France and England, should be remembered to his credit. He will find it difficult to contend against the influences of next year, but there is no fatality, as 1 believe. I am, sir, ypurs obediently, Cub. Cook. London, October 29, 1870. [Mr. Cook having in the foregoing communication made allusions to Zadkiel, we take the opportunity of saying that on a post-card from ihe veteran astrologer, bearing date October 20, there is written, " I am looking to the 29th as a bad day for Paris, for then the red star (Mars) will enter her ruling sign." I Wc suppose it will be admitted the surrender of Metz, with an army of 173,000 men, 53 " eagles," immense stores of war material, is a sad fulfilment of Zadkiel's prevision. This took place on the day named, and tho special correspondent of the Standard writes thus upon the stupendous event* —" Yesterday was indeed a terrible day for France. The disaster was so complete, so terrible, so crushing, that men could scarcely take in or understand the consequences.—Ed.]
