The Evening Star. FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 1871. PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. THURSDAY.
At the meeting of the Provincial Council yesterday, various reports and petitions were received. The motion with reference to a reserve for a short railway at the Kawakawa coal mines was debated and adjourned. The motion of Mr. Philips', with reference to grants to Volunteers, was carried. The Provincial Engineer's accounts were ordered to be printed. The Government expressed an intention of qualifying the late circular to Provincial officers. A return was asked for with reference to the duties of constables in the city. An address to the Superintendent was carried respecting the control and discipline of the Police force. The Licensing Bill was advanced in committee, and the Council adjourned till 1 p.m. to-day.
