POLICE COURT.—Friday.
[Before J. H. Home and G. B. Owen, Esqs., Justices ] Deunkennbss.—D. Hartley was punished in the usual manner. Merchant SHiPPrsra Act.—W. Williams was charged with having stowed away at Honolulu, and come to Auckland -without paying fare. —John Steuart deposed : I am master of the Wonga Wonga. Prisoner stowed away from this in the Wonga Wonga, and knocked about at Honolulu. I believe the police were after him there. He stowed, away coming back, and we did not observe him till the pilot boat had left.—Fined £5, or to be imprisoned for one month. —Henry King was charged by Captain Brown, of the Dancing Wave, .with riotous conduct and assault on board that vessel at Levuka, on the 23rd of December last. Mr. McGregor, in the absence of Mr. Joy, appeared for the defence, and, on his application, the case wa3 adjourned till the following day. Gaoiebs and Pbisonees Aot.—J. Dumont, alias Henry Langlands, alias F. Smith, was charged with having secreted instruments, for the purpose of aidiag Frederick Plummer, a prisoner at Mount Eden, to escape.— E. Wrixon deposed to haying gone with prisoner to the gaol on the night of the 6th January, and seeing him plant the articles in an ash heap. Prisoner stated they were to aid Plummer to escape.—Bartholomew Lloyd, chief warden at Mount Eden, deposed that on the 9th he accompanied Detective Ternahan and Wrixon to the blacksmith's forge at the gaol, and found the articles produced (two small saws, two fiies, and a key,) in an ash heap. Plummer is a prisoner at Mount Eden. A gang of prisoners work near the place indicated.—Detective Ternahan corroborated the previous evidence.—Fined £30, or in default three movths' imprisonment with hard labor. Another charge against prisoner was not proceeded with.
