MINING.
(FEOir TO-DAY'S " THAIIE3 ADVERTISES.")
TIIE Sedan Claim, late Thrieve Castle, about which so much lias been heard of late in the Warden's Court, now that the question of ownership is settled, is again in active occupation, and the new shareholders have already commenced to crush trials from the lodes already opened. At present a 4-ton parcel from one of the lodes is being crushed at the single stamper battery of the Manukau machine, and as opportunity offers other lots will be put through from time to time. This of course will not prevent the carrying out of the main object which the shareholders have in view, that of cutting the Waitemata reef, and for this purpose the sinking of the main shaft will be carried on without ' interruption. The shaft is already down more than one hundred feet. The shareholders intend at once commencing the erection of suitable winding machinery for the purpose of carrying down the shaft with the least possible expense.
The Caledonian Company have made an excellent start this month with respect to the quality of stuff that is now being taken out and crushed. The show of the general stuff at the battery is highly encouraging, and promises well for the prospects of the company for the present month.
