WINE - GROWING.
The following is the proposal of Dr. Stratford, for encouraging the production of wine, leferred to in another column :—■
Dr. Stratford to move, " That a respectful address be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent, praying him to offer as a reward for the cultivation of the vine in the province of Auckland, that any person or persons declaring it to be their intention to commence the same shall have the privilege of selecting, from the waste lauds of the province of Auckland, two hundred acres of land. That they shall immediately prepare, plan', aud cultivate ten acres of vineyard, and within a reasonable time shall produce at least one hundred gallons of wine from the juice of the grape, without any ad mixture or adulteration whatsoever ; and if within the period of seven years they shall produce the above specified amount for three consecutive years, and shall obtain a certificate from three competent, judges of the goodness and purity of the wine, they shall be entitled to a grant of four hundred pounds and Crown grant for the two hundred acres of land, free from al" charges, rents, or taxes whatsoever.
