WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21. [Before His Honor Sir Gr. A. Arney, Knight, Chief Justice, and a Common Jury.) His HoNOit took his seat on the Bench at ten o'clock.

Gold v. Workman and Others. —Mr. Hesketh for the plaintiff, Mr. Whitaker with him. Mr. Macdonald and Mr. Weston for the defendants. —The hearing of this case was resumed ; but tbe whole of the morning was occupied with evidence of ai-chitects and contractors, who deposed to the measurements of the building, the quality of the work in it, the correctness of the estimates, and a variety of

matters of detail, also the usages of trade.— Tbe witnesses examined were Mr. Edward Mahony, Mr. Taylor (late Taylor and Amos), but their evidence was wholly technical, and not of the slightest public interest. (Left sitting.)

POLICE COURT.— Wednesday. [Before J. Naughton and R. B. Porter, Esqs., Justices.]

DituNKENNESS. —R. M'Gregor was fined ss. for a first offence. A E. Cowen, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 20s. and costs, or to be imprisoned for 48 hours. The same offender, being an habitual drunkard, was sent to gaol for one month as a vagrant. Municipal Pouch Act.—Sarah Leopard, for allowing two cows to wander, was fined ss. and costs. City Rates.— W. Walters was charged with not having paid £5 12s. Gd., rates due on property in Barrack-street. —Mr. Didda'^is proved the amount in the usual way. —Judgment for plaintiif with costs. —A similar charge against P. McArthur was, on the application of Mr. McGregor, for defendant, adjourned till Saturday.
