'LECTURE AT THE MECHANICS.'
Last night Mr. Tinne delivered a lecture on "Protection to Local Industries," under the auspices of the New Zpaland Industry League. There was a very large attendance, and great interest was manifested in the proceedings. Mr. Thomas iVTaciTarlane occupied the chair. Towards the close of the proceedings, Some disturbance was caused by a Mr. Bright, who had previously challenged Mr. Clarke to a public discussion, and then shown the white feather. A s the Press of Auckland had refused to let him fly from his bounceab'.e proposal, he took the opportunity of denouncing its degeneracy. If Mr Bright's heart docs not again fail him, we shall probably hear a discussion of things in general in the course of a few weeks.
