CITY BOARD.

THIS DAY.

The iisual monthly meeting of the members of the City Board was held yesterday nfternoon, at the office of the Board, Canada Buildings.—Present:.Messrs. P. A.Philips, (chairman), George Bugden, Soeats, Atkin, Hampton, Asher, Macready, Staines, and Smart.

Minutes—The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CnAPEi -steket. —A letter was received from \fr. Goodman, calling attention to the state of the drain opposite to his house. —As the writer of the letter had not contributed to certain repairs in fthis street, it was resolved that the Board could not do anything in the matter unless Mr. Goodman would pay the eipeuoc. Foreman's Repoht.— The Foreman of Works' monthly report was brought up and laid upon the tablp.—lt was resolved to get another thousand yards of metal.

Lig-rting IN Uppes Qtteen-stt?f,et. —The Lighting Committee recommended a new lamp be placed at the corner of Turnerstreet, and that the lamp before Mr. Kvitt's •=hop be put out. — Mr. Staines objected to the removal of the lamp. It was very useful, as the public-houses turned their lights as low as possible.—The Chairman said this would be put an end to—publicans would have to burn a proper light throughout the night.—Some discussion took place on the subject of a rather personal character.—Mr. Staines moved an amendment, " That the light be not extinguished, but moved to the edge of the road, and that the lamp also be placed at the orner of Turner-street."
