PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.— Thursday.
A long discussion occurred relative to the circular of his Honor the Superintendent, prohibiting Provincial officers from participating in electioneering, and a copy of which had been inadvertently forwarded to the Speaker. A motion was carried that the powers under the Gold fields Act should be delegated, not to the Superintendent alone, but in Council. A committee was ap-; pointed for developing the fisheries. fA J signal station was resolved on for Tiritiri, and resolutions carried respecting £300 for Agricultural Societies, and a sufficient sum for testing our native woods. The debate on the Licensing Bill, which contains the permissive clause, was adjourned till 'Tuesday, and the debate was repumecl. and again adjourned on the Appropriation Bill.
