ARRIVAL OF THE JAMES PATERSON.
The A.S.N. Co.'s s.s. James Paterson, C. E. Saunders, commander, left Sydney on Friday, November 18, at 5.30 p.m. ; came to an anchor in Watson's Bay at 6.30 p.m., owing to a strong easterly gale blowing. At 2.30 p.m. on Saturday, 19th, got under weigh and proceeded to sea, wind more moderate ; 7 p.m. increasing breeze and very heavy sea, with thick rain ; 5.30 a.m. on the 20th, the rudder head broke off short to the deck, set all' sail and bore up for Sydney, arriivng at that port on the same evening at 5.30; after having new rudder just made left on Monday, 21st, at 6pm.; cleared the Heads at 7 p.m. ; passed the Three Kings at 1 a.m. on the 27th ; passed Tiritiri lighthouse at midnight ; arrived in Auckland harbor at 2 a:m. of the 28th ; experienced strong westerly winds for the first 24 hours, the remainder of the passage light variable winds and fine weather throughout.
