The Evening Star. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1870.

The sailing of the schooner Kauri is postponed until Monday, 28th inst. The Hon. Julius Vogel was a passenger by the s,s. Taranaki for the South this morning. Mr. J. B. Howe appeared last night again in the " Hugenots" at the Prince of Wales Theatre and, as usual, achieved a'great success, being well supported by the really excellent company, now playing at this theatre. Tonight the " Star Chamber" will be reproduced. Theteameetingin connection with this schoo was held last evening, in the school-room, at which a large number of the young and old sat down to an excellent tea provided by the ladies of the High-street Church. After tea the Rev. J. Buller took the chair, and the meeting was addressed by several of the ministers attending the District Meeting. The Secretary' (Mr. W. Thome) then read a long and interesting report from which it appeared that the school was in an efficient state, both as regards teachers and management. The number of children on the books is 145, the attendance of the children being a great improvement on that of the preceding year. No deaths have occurred during the last two years. Tho am ount eucscribed by the children toward the.mission fund during the year was £6 3s 4dl . The library consists of 600 volumes of vauable. and interesting works, which is largely patronised by the children. During the past, year a branch Sunday school has been opened in Barrack-street, at which upwards of forty children regularly attend. —The children of the school sang several hymns during the evening in a very creditable manner. We are glad to see that the annual Caledonian Games are to be kept up as usual in'lß7l. On the 2nd and 3rd of January these sports are to be celebrated in Mr.. Cunningham's paddock, at Newmarket. The programme, comprises . all kinds of running, leaping, wrestling, dancing, and tilting, and will afford scope for the display of the skill of all our local athletes. Entries can be made until he 26th December, at the Committee Rooms, d OlHouse at Home, Hobson-street.
