THE MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT AT THE NORTH SHORE.
An inquest was held yesterday at the house of Mr. Nicholson, Shoal Bay, before Dr.Philson, Coroner, and a jury, upon the body of William McFridge, aged three and a-half years, who ■ was drowned under circumstances as described in our yesterday's issue. The principal witness was Mrs. Vaughan, who deposed that she saw the deceased fall off the plunk into the creek. Mrs,-Nicholson, the grandmother, who was a good swimmer, immediately jumped into the creek after the body, but did not succeed in saving his life. —After heirinn the evidence, the jury returned a verdict of " Accidental Drowning."
The search for Mrs. Nicholson .was continued throughout yesterday, but without avail. It is very probable that the body was carried out into the harbour, in which case it may not be found for several days ; but, on the other hand, it is just possible that she may have swam safely ja shore, and may still turn up, although wo are afraid that is hardly likely.
