PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
TUESDAY.
In the Provincial Council yesterday, after various petitions bad been laid on tje table,, as also plans and a report relative to waterworks at the Thames, the Council went intb committee, on the Education Bill. After discussing a considerable number of clauses progress was reported, and leave obtained to sit again.": The report on the Albert Barracks and Port JBritomart reserves -was ''brought up, and its consideration will be in the business for tomorrow. A message (No. 23) was received from the -Superintendent respecting the wharves at the North Shore, ajrid proposing to let them on lease; with cinditicns for keeping them in repair. .1

Among the business on the notice paper fcti* this evening, besides various petitions, of not much public importance, is a motion by Mr. Lusk :; — Tljat an Address be presented to his Honor the Supei'infendent, requesting him to procure and to furnish this Council with an est> mate of the probable cost of the construction of a road" .from Point Britomart across Mechanics' Bay to the foot of Parnell hill, at a point on the seaward side of the site of the factory of the- Sash and Door Company. Captain Ereer is to move, — ; That the petition 6f certain electors of the Northern Division, pi-ajing no time be lost in putting tho question of | the repairs ond maintenance of j the wharves, at tho North Shore upon a satis- '■ faofory and permanent footing, be) rereferred to/a selc<;t committee ; committee to' \ consist of Mr. Creighton, Mr. Dyer, Mr. I Hurst, Mr. Sheehan,- and the mover, to; .bringr [ Tip a report on Wednesday next. I There are two motions in the name >of Mr. Beveridge affecting the Thames,
one relating to tile Grahamsiown' wharf, the other for placing on the estimates a snra of £100 for the' Thames Mechanics' Institute. Mr. Boylan's motion relative to the establishment of a Public.Library stands for adjourned debate ; also the second reading of the City Board Loan Acts Uepeal Bill; the further consideration of the Education Bill in committee, and the second reading of the Kaipara Eailwayßiil.
