FIVE HOUSE IN QUEEN-STREET DESTROYED.
This morning, at 4 o'clock, the quiet town of Onehunga was roused into unwonted excitement by a fire of an extensive character having broken out at the bottom of Queen-street. In the absence of any appliances for staying the progress of the flames, five houses — situated opposite to Neilson's, butcher : — were totally consumed. Three of these belonged to Mr. Codlin, hotel-keeper, of Onehunga, and were insured in the office of the New Zealand Insurance Company. No indication is yet afforded as to the origin of the fire, which will be the subject of an official inquiry.
