Shell had 600 yards start, but gave in after less than six miles, in 38 minutes. Pentecost, with 600 yards start, retired after running 700 yards. Race 3 well attended. Hurdle race—Sir Tatton, 1, Star of the South. 2, Trump, 3. Derby—Envy 1, Mariner 2, Bashaw 3. Jockey Club Handicap —Knottin'lev 1, Southern Chief, 2. Several .lots have yet to come in.—Wildboy has been scratched for all engagements at the Metropolitan meeting. —E. C. J. Stevens conies forward for the Selwyn district in Ihe House Of Representatives, in compliance with a numerously-signed requisition.— A fire broke out on Friday roaming, in an unoccupied house, Windmill Rpa 1. The house was burnt down ; three men were sleeping in the house tho night previous. Sonic suspicious circumstances arc rumored with regard to the fire, and investigations will take place.
