THE COROMANDEL GOLD FILLS.

A ■ pecimen weighing 6Olbs taken out of the Poverty.

TFeom: the " Thames Adveiitisee's" Cor^

BESPONDEJfT.] November 8, 1870. The crushing for the Boyal Oak, at the Whakaroa battery, wa3 completed on Saturday, so far as the general stuff was concerned, but the specimens were crushed yesterday, and the retorting has not been completed. Thd best specimens, I understand, will go to Shortland to-day, to be erusheJ in the amalgamating barrel of the Tramway battery. —The New Zealand Company's battery is not ready for crushing. In addition to new cams, an additional stamper has been added to each battery, making now five instead of four heads. I beiieve°tliis will be a great improvement to the machinery.—Tie pro-ipecfs of the Coromandcl gold field never looked brighter than at the present moment. Scarcely a day passes without some new claim striking gold, or an old one getting it ridier than ever. The last sensation is the Poverty. One large boulder taken from this claim weighs over sixty pounds and is full of gold.—The Rainbow End, a portion of the All Nations No. 3, came upon some good stone last week. It is a white quartz with the gold as though peppered a!l over it wherever broken, and calculated to give a return of about 20ozs. to the ton. —The Dwarf, a claim of two men's ground, adjoining the Rainbow End, have also struck gold of a superior character, but I have not yet seen any'of the specimens. The Rev. Father Francis paid the district a visit on Friday, and-he returned to Shortland yesterday. He preached on Sunday at the Catholic Church, Upper Township, to an overflowing congregation.—The Rev. Mr; Nekon is to pay us a visit towards the end of the week, and will preach on Sunday next in the Schoolroom at the Upper Township.
