ACCLIMATIZATION SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Council of the Acclimatization Society was held this morning. James Williamson, Esq., presided. There were present : — Messrs. Tonks, Burtt, Mackelvie, S. Jones, T. B. Hill, D. L. Murdoch, and W. Morrin. — The Secretary slated that fortyeight rooks had been received by the Countess of Kintore, and a very cordial vote of thanks had been passed to Captain Petherbridge for the great care that effected such an unusual result, as almost all the birds shipped had been landed in safety, two only being lost in the passage. . Captain Petherbridge was elected an honorary member for life, and as be declined to take the usual gratuity for hi« care of the birds, it was unanimously resolved to purchase and present him with one of Mr. Seufferl's remarkable tables. In reply to a letter from the Government, at Honolulu, three pairs of sparrows and three pairs of starlings, were ordered-to be forwarded to that place, i It was also directed that Australian quail be liberated at Hamilton, and that the kiwi in the gardens be transmitted to Melbourne. It was stated that grouse had been shipped in London by the City of Auckland. Various matters were discussed respecting the trout ova, and other interests of the society.
