The black eye which I bear and marks of bniises all qyer my body were caused by the kicking which I received from him. He lias often threatened to take my life, and that he would hang for me yet. I am afraid "he will take my. life. On' going into the house, he beat me violently, till there were pools of blood on the door. Tlie child got Iho door opened, and I run out, and on his kicking mo again, the butcher opposite was obliged to hold him. I am now suffering severely from the effects, and almost unable to stand on my feet.—Oossexnmined by Mr. Joy, in order to«show that prosecutiix was the arsailunt: She admitted having struck bac-k and thrown sand at her husband when attacked by liiin.—Constable O'Connor deposed to liaving seen the crowd opposite the llibernia Hotel, and on going up lie found the parlies had beon fighting. Defendant said it was a sweep with whom lie had been fighting that had cut his face. Persuaded them to go home and be nt peace. An hour afterwards was sent for, and going to defendant's place, found a large crowd outside the door. Saw the wjfe, whose face was mutilated and lier arms rut, and covered with blood. Took hr to the station, where she laid the information, and went and got her wounds dressed.— To Mr. Joy : It was after they got home that she must have received the black eye. She brought the little girl with her to the station. I was urged by the bystanders to take the man i:i charge, but could not a:' I had not witnessed the assault.— For the defence, Joseph Stark deposed : I am a carpenter, and was returning from work when the row occurred. Saw defendant running away from complainant. Saw her dash his heat against the brick wall; she threw brickbat-, or something like them at. him. Saw them go away with the constable. —Oomplaii ant stated to the iJonch that he had never done an} thing for her support, and that she was able to support herself if left alone by him, and that it was with her earnings that he had always been getting drunk at Rowley's. —Sentenced to oue month's imprisonment with hard labor, and I hen to give security by two bonds in £25 each to keep the pence for three months.
