ENTERTAINMENT IN ST. MAT. THEWS SCHOOL-ROOM.
A.N entertainment was given last evening in aid of the lighting of the above school-room with gas, which passed -off very agreeably. The programme was an ample one, find consisted of a selection, of glees; recitations, and solos; tho room was crowded Madame Mohler kindly assisted, and played and sang with her usual good taste. Mis3:Edgar pleased us much. The recitations were fair. Mr. Davis, sen., was excellent, especially in his '"Drip to Margate";" the juveniles, and even those of maturer yeai's, wei-e convulsed with laughter by his funny style: Mr.'DaVis,jun., also added greatly to the enjoytiient of the evening ; his reading was very good. Mr. Spicer was very spicy. Messrs. White and Eastwood did their share, and their personations of character were well given. The way in which Mr. Cottar rendered the "Soldier's Pardon" did him great credit, and was one of the best things of the evening. The " J aughing Trio," a glee, caused much risibility, and " tickled one's fancy ;" this was encored. A gentleman, whose name we do not know, sang /two comic songs very well ; a little lr.ore action by him in singing such songs would be an improvement. The evening's enterlainment con- ' eluded with the national anthem.
