PRESENTATION TO THE BISHOP OF LICHFIELD.
Tire public of Auckland will recollect that upon the departure of Bishop Selwyn from these shores a subscription was raided for the purpose of presenting His' Lordship with a writing table formed of New Zealand woods. The Work was executed by Mr. Seufferb, and forwarded to the Bishop in England. ,
Mr. Pierce, who was one of the gentlemen who took a leading part in the presentation, has received from His Lordship the following letter:— ; . i-f '
Palace, Lichfteld, July 25, IS7O. My Dear Mr. Pierce,—l have now had sufficien time to admire and fully appreciate the beauty of the writing table which you and other friends have so kindly sent me. Even in* England, where beautiful work abounds, it is admired by everyone. I have no list of the donors and therefore I must request you to convey my thanks to all to whom I am indebted for this most beautiful and pleasing memorial of friends, forests, and ferns in Zealand.—l remain, my dear Mr. Pierce, yours very gratefully, G. A. Lichfield. G. P. Pierce, Esq., for himself and other friends.
