ARRIVAL OF THE HERO
i ilThe" jp.s. Hero, Captain Logan, arrived in harbour from Sydney and-Melbourne at an early hour this morning. She left Sydney and cleared the Heads at 7 p.m. on the 12th inst.; rounded the North Cape at 6.30 a.m. on the ''18th; and arrived in harbour at 6 a.m. this morfiihg. .V. On the passage across, the Hero on leaving Sydney-experienced a strong south-7-eaat gale.; the weather, dark and cloudy, with "frequent heavy showers of rain, hard squalls, and a high sea, until the morning of the 14th, vwhen. the .wind veered to the eastward and ». continued (blowing a strong gale ; the weather thick and,hazy, with frequent heavy squalls, continuous rain, and a very high confused sea, .Until midnight of the 16th; afterwards, a moderate wind, prevailed with fine weather, [until daylight of the 18th, when a light . southerly wind set in to the North Cape; a strong.south; south-west wind afterwards prevailed, with fine, weather to' arrival in port. At 6.30 a.m. on the 18th, passed a light ■ schooner off the North Cape, inward bound, whh red painted ports, but could not make out her numbers.
